responce to viran on body modification

i also question 'why' people put themsleves through such lengths in order to obtain a particular image, everybody has personal prefrences about their bodies but i couldnt put mysef through some of the searing pain's they put themselves through. some of the pictures and slides were pretty graphic but they were intriguing to. i think this was a avery insightful lecture in a wierd way, and i am still shocked about the lengths that people go through !

Responce to Asifa's blog on Bad Cinema

I believe that although 'Kids' was a raw and maybe over the top film, it was extremely educational. i am a young person and i am aware of the effects of drinking, going out, sex and drugs because of school talks and educational lessons. However, i believe that the way the topics were presented in the film were hard hitting and i think that if teenagers are shown films like this when they are young they will be able to relate to it more and therefore understand more.

response to kal on being too religious :

i find your comment on not going to the temple very interesting, i do not agree with this point as i believe that if you are truely religious then you shouldnt have to prove your religiousness by going to a temple. God should reside in your heart and mind. It could be considered that people go to the temple to show other people that they are religious, when infact you may be going for matters of personal pride and/or obligation.

body modification

Body Modifcation is apart of a western way of life. keeping upto date with the latest hair styles, piercing ears, and other body parts, tatooing etc ... . I cut my hair regularly and have pierced my ears and i find it perfectly normal, however many people have "extreme" forms of Body Modification. In the lecture, i was shocked but incredibly intrigued, because the pictures were more graphic then i expected. However the insight as to why people go to such lengths to modify thier body's was really interesting and eye opening. On the internet there is a vast sum of pages dedicated to the topic and yet many people have little knowledge on the topic.

here are some links and pictures on the topic :http://www.bodymod.org/home.asp

being too religous

I personally am not a religious person, however I respect that other people are deeply religious, which is fine. However I don’t agree with preaching in streets and town, because in today’s society everybody is aware of the different religions and if they are interested about a ‘faith – change’ then they can research and ask people as to how to go about it. However to me, a non religious person, when people preach at me, I find it imposing and annoying because it feels uneasy and forceful.

In my experiences relating to religion I have realised that many people try to impose culture as religion in order to give their thoughts credibility, such as their thoughts over gender or social values.

Heres a artic;e which I think is really good on Islam :

here is an article on the sikh faith and the decline of one part of the faith :

I consider infidelity as a conscious action taken by a person towards an additional person, despite already being involved with one person. The reason may vary, however I don’t think any are excusable, the severity of their impact maybe varied however that does not mean that they should be excused. However then the question rises, how do we punish one for being unfaithful? Many people seek vengeance, and try to use embarrassment as a weapon so that the culprit is shamed infront of the world, however in my opinion this is quiet an extreme thing to do, and although the culprit may deserve it, could lead to repercussions for the person seeking vengeance. I have heard many cases where the victim has cut the culprits clothes up, or urinated into their grooming products. I don’t personally know how I would react in such a situation where I was the victim as I have never been in that position; then again I have never been the culprit either. I think the mistake that culprits make often is to lie in order to cover up their infidelity however, I believe that the truth of any matter will at some point come out, and the situation will only become worse, as then then the culprit becomes guilty of deceit of two different types. All in all … JUST DON’T DO IT !!!

masturbation

Masturbation is a method of self sexual pleasure. I found it very humourous when the different names for masterbation were being said, E.G. bash the bishop and stroke the lizard. However I found it equally disturbing when I saw the devices used by people in order to ‘cure’ their sexual urges. People are now a lot more excepting of masturbation and even expect it in some cases, regarding it as something which is done in a particular phase in your life. However the attitudes to mastibation 100 yaers ago would not have been so open. I think the fact that masturbation is being spoken about and written about in this date shows how much society has moved forward mentally. Masturbation is now joked about however it doubt that would have happened 100 years ago. From a personal point of view, I might feel comfortable talking about masturbation with friends, however i think I would be more reluctant to talk about it with strangers, although that does not mean that I absolutely would not, I think I would just feel uncomfortable.

smoking

I dont think smoking is particulary a 'bad' thing to do considering many people drink accesively and take drugs ! The people who smoke, know the health risks involved and choose to do so. I do think that smoking does have a 'cool' characteristic because in many films, smoking is highly styilzed and is used to make a point about the person smoking and there personality.
